The Medibank International Sydney has always been a brilliant day out and great value for the whole family and in 2009 tennis fans and Sydney’s social set will find it even more so. And kicking things off for next January’s event is the news that Lleyton Hewitt is the first of the big names to be announced.

Tournament Director Craig Watson said: “I am delighted that one of Australia’s most dedicated champions, Lleyton Hewitt , a four-time winner of the Medibank International,
is our first big name to be announced. Sydney will be the first official ATP tournament he plays in his comeback.”

“Over the next few weeks we will be announcing a line-up of players that will produce arguably the most exciting field we have ever hosted at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis
Centre.”

Hewitt won the title in 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005. In the Open-era he has won this title more often than any other male player.

“My recovery is going well and I am really looking forward to the Australian summer,” said Hewitt. “It is an exciting time for me; I am already feeling refreshed, reinvigorated
and excited about the challenge ahead.”

“Sydney is a happy hunting ground for me. I have won here four times and would love to make it five. Some good hard matches in Sydney will certainly help me in my preparation
for the 2009 Australian Open.”

Watson also announced the opening of ticket sales for one of the world’s most historically significant tennis tournaments which he said is the best value sporting ticket
in the world.

“We are thrilled to have many of tennis’ greatest stars returning to the Medibank International Sydney and sports fans from around the country could get the opportunity
to see them in action for as little as $9.90 on a world class stage,” said Watson.

“The $9.90 ground pass will allow the tennis loving public to get up close to many of their favourite players as they enjoy the atmosphere of the country’s biggest event after the
Australian Open. And with Christmas not that far off, this could be the perfect gift.”

Single session tickets for centre court start at just $24.90 with full corporate packages also available. The Medibank International Sydney will take place at the Sydney Olympic Park
Tennis Centre, Sydney Olympic Park from Sunday 11th January to Saturday 17th January, 2009.

Tickets go on sale through Ticketek on Thursday 9 October and can be purchased online at www.ticketek.com.au or by calling 1300 888 104.
