Former world No.1 coming to Sydney

Former world No.1 and Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo is the latest star to confirm their attendance at the Medibank International Sydney in January.
Mauresmo, the current world number 24, joins a star-studded field of players that already includes the top four women – Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Dinara Safina and Elena Dementieva.
The Frenchwoman, a frequent visitor to Sydney, is a former champion at the Medibank International, having won the event in 2000. She was also a finalist in 2004 and reached the quarter finals in 2008.
Medibank International Sydney Tournament Director Craig Watson is delighted with this latest addition.
“Amelie has always been a favourite with the crowds here in Sydney and we love seeing her grace our courts each January,” said Watson.
”She is a powerful player with great skills, a real joy to watch. We can’t wait to welcome her back to Sydney for what we hope is a successful start to the season for her.”
Mauresmo debuted on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in 1993 and first entered the world’s top 100 in 1998. She reached her first grand slam in 1999 at the Australian Open and achieved her first top ten finish in the same year. In September 2004, Mauresmo reached the number one ranking after winning titles in Berlin, Rome, Montreal, Linz and Philadelphia.
In 2006, Mauresmo had her best season to date, breaking through with her first grand slam title, winning the Australian Open in January, followed by a Wimbledon title in July.
Mauresmo ha s amassed a total of 24 career titles in singles, two in doubles and over $14,000,000 in prizemoney.
