Nadal still a chance for Sydney

World No.1 Rafael Nadal could still be a late inclusion for the Medibank International Sydney in January.
And emerging British star Andy Murray is also a chance to play in the event.
Medibank International Sydney Tournament Director Craig Watson said there was still a chance that one or both players could utilise the event as part of their preparation for Australian Open 2009.
“We may be an outside chance, but as long as we are a chance I am going after them. We have a terrific men’s field with the likes of Hewitt, Tsonga, Nalbandian, Robredo and co, but Nadal and Murray would bolster any field in the world,” Watson said.
Nadal withdrew from the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup and this weekend’s Davis Cup Final in Argentina to get treatment on a knee injury. He is yet to outline his schedule for the start of the 2009 season.
“He has played here before and we know he likes the venue and the city. His management has not ruled it out and we know the people of Sydney would welcome him with open arms,” Watson said. “Until they outline their plans we are going to keep asking.”
Murray has become one of the hottest male players on the planet after a stellar year. He is still finalising his preparation for what many believe may be the best chance in his still blossoming career to win his first Grand Slam.
“Murray is one of the form players in the world. He has stepped it up a notch this year and he has a terrific all round game. On his day he is the equal of any. He would be a terrific addition to our field,” Watson said.
The field for the 2009 Medibank International Sydney will be determined at the end of the month.
