Dellacqua top-billing on day two

West Australian Casey Dellacqua begins her 2009 Medibank International Sydney campaign tomorrow.
Dellacqua can expect a lot of parochial support when she meets Italy’s Sara Errani who she beat in their only previous meeting, on clay in Strasbourg last year. The pair are third match on Ken Rosewall Arena.
First up is seventh seed Nadia Petrova against Alize Cornet of France. This is a danger match for the seasoned Russian because Cornet is one of the fast-rising players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.
Petrova’s opposite number in the men’s draw Spaniard Tommy Robredo plays Jurgen Melzer of Austria in the second match on Ken Rosewall Arena.
Second seed Dinara Safina faces Sorana Cirstea of Romania while Mario Ancic closes out the Ken Rosewall Arena when he plays Xavier Malisse who won through three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw.
The day two program is packed with world class tennis with 25 matches scheduled on five courts.
Third seed Elena Dementieva, fresh from winning the title in Auckland on Saturday is in action against compatriot Ekaterina Makarova, Brisbane finalist Marion Bartoli plays qualifier Melanie South while Aussie wild card Emelyn Starr meets qualifier Vera Duschevina.
“We had a record breaking crowd on the first day and we are expecting another brilliant day of tennis with a tremendous atmosphere and fantastic matches,” Tournament Director Craig Watson said.
“There’ll be plenty for fans to cheer about with more big names and a couple of young Aussies in action.”
