Kuznetsova survives first round scare

Fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova has fought back from a set down to win her first round match against China’s Shuai Peng at the Medibank International Sydney today.
In the first match on the newly named centre court – Ken Rosewall Arena – the Russian world No.8 won 3-6 6-1 6-3 to move into the second round.
Kuznetsova will play either Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi or a qualifier in the second round.
Crowds have flocked to Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on day one of the Medibank International Sydney with tournament organisers announcing they are on track to break the longstanding first day record attendance.
Australia’s Samantha Stosur is next up on centre court against top seed and US Open champion Serena Williams.
