Gasquet through to Sydney final

Richard Gasquet has reached the Medibank Sydney International final after defeating Julien Benneteau 6-3 7-5 in the all-French semi-final.

World number 53 Gasquet, playing his third semi-final at this event, took the first set comfortably but had to come from a break down to win an entertaining second.

He will now face either Marcos Baghdatis or Mardy Fish in the final.

Following the match Gasquet said it wasn’t his best performance, but he was pleased to be through to the final.

“I’m really happy because I won. It wasn’t a great match not an incredible level. I was a little bit tired in the second set, but I tried to play. I was a little bit lucky.”

“But for sure, to come back and to do a final, I’m very happy with it. Yes. It’s important”
