Applications are now open for a wide range of volunteer positions at Apia International Sydney 2012.
Ballkid volunteers
Tennis Australia is currently looking for dedicated kids who are passionate about tennis to volunteer and join the Apia International Sydney (SI) 2012 ballkids team.
As an SI Ballkid, you will work within a fun and energetic team to assist players during matches with their on-court needs, including the retrieval and distribution of tennis balls.
To be considered as an SI Ballkid volunteer,you must be aged 13 to 17 during January 2012 and have unrestricted availability from 5 – 14 January 2012.
Selection trials will be held in Sydney on Sunday 24 September 2011 (TBC).
Ballkid volunteer applications close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday 7 September 2011.
General volunteers
We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals with a diverse range of skills and experience to volunteer at the Sydney International, in the following areas:
- Spectator Services: first point of contact for public as they enter the venue and general assistance throughout the venue including Ken Rosewall Arena and show courts.
- Field of play: on court supplies and service. Preparing match and practice courts with towels, water, drinks, umbrellas etc. Courts are set prior to matches commencing and required to be stocked throughout sessions. This role requires a lot of physical lifting.
- Technology: assisting implementation of all technology aspects, accreditation, statistical analysis and results distribution. It is a requirement of this role that you know the rules of tennis.
- Player services: assist with the day to day needs of players and their guests during the event.
- Transport: transporting players, guests and officials between official hotels, site and airport transfers. You must be available from 2 – 16 January 2012 to pick up/drop-off players to and from the airport and venue.
- Media centre: assist with day to day operation of the media centre including distribution of media facts, assistance with supplies to the media room.
- SI interactive zone: assisting with a variety of fun interactive activities, where people can play a range of tennis games including speed serving and mini-tennis.
Volunteers must be available during the tournament period (6 January – 14 January 2012) and new volunteers must attend a compulsory briefing session prior to the tournament (date tbc).
