Viktor Troicki has taken his winning streak in Sydney to 13 after winning his second-round match at the Apia International.

After receiving a first-round bye, the third seed kicked off his 2017 campaign with a 6-3 6-4 win over Italian veteran Paolo Lorenzi at Ken Rosewall Arena.

“It’s an amazing feeling to play here in Sydney again. Obviously I had a lot of success here, especially on this court. It just feels great,” he said.

“I’m happy that I won my first match again this year, going through, and I hope I continue the streak.”

Troicki, the two-time defending champion, is bidding to become the first player in Open-Era history to win three straight Sydney titles.

He has not lost in the Harbour City since a second-round defeat to Alex Bogomolov Jr in 2012.

He emphatically sealed victory – with an ace down the T – in 92 minutes.

“I was told nobody won three in a row here, so that would be an amazing achievement. I’m definitely going for that – it’s a big goal,” he said.

“It’s not going to be easy. There’s a lot of good players and like always it’s never easy to win the title. But I’ll give my best.”

He faces fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals.

Kohlschrieber advanced with a straight-sets win over Aussie wildcard Jordan Thompson earlier on Wednesday.
